背景信息

HBEGF, or heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor, is a member of the epidermal growth factor (EGF) family, known for its role in cell proliferation, migration, and inflammation. It is synthesized as a transmembrane protein and can be cleaved by metalloproteinases to form a soluble, mature growth factor that can induce juxtacrine, autocrine, paracrine, or endocrine signaling depending on the cellular environment. HB-EGF expression has been implicated in tumor progression because of its overexpression in many tumors, including hepatocarcinoma, colon, melanoma, myeloma, breast, prostate, and bladder tumors.
