Product Information
KE00330 is a solid phase sandwich Enzyme Linked-Immuno-Sorbent Assay (Sandwich ELISA). The human SOD1 ELISA kit is to be used to detect and quantify protein levels of endogenous human SOD1 . The assay recognizes human SOD1 . An antibody specific for human SOD1 has been pre-coated onto the microwells. The human SOD1 protein in samples is captured by the coated antibody after incubation. Following extensive washing, another antibody of biotinylated specific for human SOD1 is added to detect the captured human SOD1 protein. For signal development, Streptavidin-HRP is added, followed by Tetramethyl-benzidine (TMB) reagent. Solution containing sulfuric acid is used to stop color development and the color intensity which is proportional to the quantity of bound protein is measurable at 450 nm with the correction wavelength set at 630 nm.

Background Information
SOD1 (Cu/Zn Superoxide Dismutase), also known as hemocuprein and IPOA (PMID: 5389100). SOD1 plays a role in cellular defense against oxidative stress. It neutralizes superoxide radicals, a type of reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated during normal cellular processes. By eliminating superoxide radicals, SOD1 protects cells from oxidative damage and maintains cellular health (PMID: 24140062). Mutations in SOD1 is linked to familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease affecting nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord (PMID: 20644736).
