Background Information
Calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase 1 catalyzes the phosphorylation and activation of Ca(2+)/calmodulin kinase (CaMK) as an upstream component of the CaMK cascade that has been implicated in neuronal gene transcription, synaptic plasticity, and long-term memory consolidation. CAMKK1 involved in regulating cell apoptosis, promotes cell survival by phosphorylating AKT1/PKB that inhibits pro-apoptotic BAD/Bcl2-antagonist of cell death. Researches showed that Camkk1 plays a selective role in contextual fear memory.
