背景介绍
TERF2IP, also named as DRIP5, RAP1, is a 399 amino acid protein, which belongs to the RAP1 family. TERF2IP associates with chromosomes, both at telomeres and in extratelomeric sites. TERF2IP acts both as a regulator of telomere function and as a transcription regulator. TERF2IP is involved in the regulation of telomere length and protection as a component of the shelterin complex (telosome). In contrast to other components of the shelterin complex, it is dispensible for telomere capping and does not participate in the protection of telomeres against non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ)-mediated repair. The calculated molecular weight of TERF2IP is 44 kDa, but modified TERF2IP, is about 60 kDa. (PMID: 15838871)
