Background Information
EIF2C3, also named as AGO3, belongs to the argonaute family and Ago subfamily. It is required for RNA-mediated gene silencing (RNAi). EIF2C3 binds to short RNAs such as microRNAs (miRNAs) and represses the translation of mRNAs which are complementary to them. EIF2C3 lacks endonuclease activity and does not appear to cleave target mRNAs.
