Background Information
Transmembrane protein 41B (TMEM41B), also known as Stasimon, is a major target of survival motor neuron (SMN)-dependent U12 splicing and has been identified as a protein required for motor circuit function. TMEM41B localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum. It is involved in autophagosome biogenesis and lipid mobilization. TMEM41B has been shown to be essential for mouse embryonic development. Additionally, genome-scale CRISPR knockout screens reveal that TMEM41B is required for infection of flavivirus and coronavirus, including SARS-CoV-2.
