NGF is a member of the neurotrophin family that regulates cell proliferation and differentiation within specific neural tissues, under both physiological and pathological condition. NGF is initially in a 7S, 130-kDa complex of 3 proteins: alpha-NGF, beta-NGF, and gamma-NGF, while the beta subunit, exhibits all the biological activities ascribed to NGF. Beta-NGF stimulates the growth of sympathetic and some sensory neurites.
